Antelope Canyon & Horseshoe Bend

last week Jason and I took a day trip to Antelope canyon to celebrate our 9th (!!!) wedding anniversary. it is crazy that we have been married so long- it has definitely flown by. our actual anniversary is today but since Jason has to work today and this Saturday, we celebrated last weekend. I had finally got over my marathon soreness and my cold that seems to always come on after running a marathon. that whole week I felt wore down and achy from all the stress the marathon put on my body. I was happy to finally feel better and get out of the house.

Antelope canyon is a slot canyon in Page about 4 1/2 hours away. they don't let you go through the canyon without a tour guide and they have the upper and lower canyon tours. we chose the lower canyon tour and were able to start the tour 10 minutes after getting there. we were happy our group was small with only 5 other people. we had to walk down a few levels of ladders to get down the canyon. the canyon was beautiful and I couldn't stop snapping photos of every inch. the tour guide didn't seem to mind us lagging behind to get photos which made it easier to get photos without other people in them.
the rock in the right photo looks like an eagles head to me.

this photo Jason took on his phone of me is actually one of my favorites for some reason. I always love candid photos more than posed ones.
 this is called "the Wave"
this rock below is called the Indian Chief. you can see his profile lit up and his "feathers" go off to the left.
this is what the canyon looks like from the top.
after the tour we drove to the Glen Canyon dam and walked around a little.
our final stop was Horseshoe Bend which was a short drive away. we both had never been there before which is surprising because it is on the way to Utah and only a little ways from the main road. there were a lot of people there so it was difficult getting pics without people in them but I managed. I am afraid of heights but Jason is even more so and he kept getting nervous when I would go even a few feet from the edge. Jason really isn't afraid of anything so I'm always surprised seeing him so squeamish around heights. he mainly stayed back while I explored and took photos. there were people sitting on the edge which made me nervous since there is no railing.
we left that evening for home and stopped in Flagstaff for some dinner. we saw some incredible places on our short trip and it was a great way to celebrate our 9th year of marriage. I am so glad I have someone to go on adventures with and I hope there are many more to come. there are tons of beautiful places in AZ and I want to make a point in seeing more of them.
