Seattle - Day 2

we went back into Seattle the next morning and went on the harbor boat tour that was on our city pass.
we walked to Pike Place Market again to see it while the shops were open.
we found the famous gum wall which was in an alley by the market. it was a little gross and smelled of mixed minty and fruity gum flavors. it was really cool though and it looked like a huge, colorful art project.
we shared a soup and sandwich for lunch at Beecher's.
we walked around the market and saw the famous fish throwing at Pike Place Fish Co.
I loved the indoor part of the market where we saw a record store, magic shop, and thrift store.
Old Seattle Paperworks was very cool with original vintage ads and signs.
we really enjoyed this antique market.
we bought tickets for Seattle Underground which is a tour of the original city underneath the streets. in the late 1800's most of the buildings were made of wood and so most of the city was burned down in a huge fire. when rebuilding the city they decided to raise the streets one story because the city would easily flood due to being built on tidelands.  they built retaining walls on either side of the streets and then filled in the space in between leaving hidden passageways underneath. in the early 1900's the underground was condemned for fear of bubonic plague and that is when it was overtaken by illegal activity. it was used for speakeasies, gambling halls, opium dens and the sort. the tour was very interesting and it was really cool to see how the city was originally. we were only able to see a small part of the underground due to most of it being considered unsafe. I got very few pics and not really any good ones.
after walking back through the city to our car, we drove to the Fremont Troll. the Fremont troll was built under the bridge in 1990 as an art project and to save the area from drug dealers. it was in a scene in the [classic] movie 10 Things I Hate About You.
we had this couple take our pic and they said they had just got back from Kurt Cobain's home. I was interested in seeing the home where he grew up, but they went to the house he lived in when he died. they said it was gated so you really couldn't see anything.

we ate dinner at a delicious little cafe in Capitol Hill and then we continued on past the city. I loved our short time in Seattle and can't wait until we can go back.
